About cmty-accessibility

CMTY-Accessibility exists to support a simple idea: accessibility works best when it is owned by the community, not centralized in a single team or role.

In many organizations, accessibility begins with passionate individuals or small expert groups. That expertise is essential—but it is rarely sufficient on its own. Without shared understanding, clear structures, and space for others to participate meaningfully, accessibility efforts struggle to scale or endure.

Community-based accessibility leadership shifts the model. It emphasizes:

  • Distributed ownership instead of gatekeeping

  • Shared language instead of one-off explanations

  • Learning in public instead of hidden expertise

  • Progress over polish

This approach does not remove the need for specialists. It makes their impact sustainable by surrounding expertise with participation, trust, and reinforcement.

CMTY-Accessibility is not a certification program or a compliance checklist. It is a thinking space and a practical resource for people who want accessibility to outlive individual champions and become part of how organizations operate every day.
